History of National Council of Barbadian Associations (UK) (NCBA)
NCBA is a voluntary organisation campaigning on behalf of UK Barbadians. We promote the rights of those Barbadians who took the lead in migrating to the UK in the mid 50's and 60's, focusing on social matters such as Health, Education, Arts and Culture. Our aim is to promote diversity in its pragmatic sense - acknowledging the role that first generation Barbadians played in building UK society and supporting the third generation of young black Britain's who have Barbadian heritage. Living examples of this is the twinning relationship between the London Borough of Hackney and Bridgetown Barbados and the twinning relationship between Reading, Berkshire and Speightstown, Barbados.
Funds raised are used to support worthwhile projects in Barbados and the UK as well as donating to deserving bodies. In the past, several donations were made to the National Children's Home and Barbados Cancer Society. Funds were also raised and donated to a Kidney Machine Appeal, which was purchased and shipped to the Barbados Queen Elizabeth Hospital. A benevolent and medical trust fund has since been established to continue this type of support.
