SAVE THE CARIBBEAN FROM APD AN UNJUST TAX!
At first glance it would appear that the battle had been lost as the increase from the 1st of November 2009 is going ahead. However, a recent session in the House of Lords has alerted to a potential new development which is suggesting that all the recent campaigning against this unjust tax against the Caribbean is having an effect which may help in averting the further increase in November 2010.
On October 12 in the House of Lords, Lords Treasury spokesman, Lord Myners, indicated that the Government was continuing to look at a possible exception for the Caribbean and that this is being considered as part of a review of APD due to be published before 1st November.
Specifically Lord Myners said in answer to a question:
"If the noble Lord is referring to the effect of APD on the Caribbean, I can tell him that my honourable friend the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury has asked officials to continue to consider this carefully. This consideration is still in progress. Any carve-out for the Caribbean with respect to this tax, such as a specific exemption or provisions, could raise questions about both legality and potential distortions between comparable destinations".
With this small glimmer of light your urgent assistance is required to help fight this unfair discrepancy in the APD increase. With an ever looming election, your local MP will be bending over backwards to try and get your support. They will be wanting to be seen to be helping you as much as possible, so you are urge to write (email) them detailing how you feel this is an unfair and discriminatory tax and the adverse effect it will have on you and your families who live in their constituencies.
